- Insanity Defense
My stance on this topic is, no, the insanity defense is not being overused. I believe that this defense is helping people who commit heinous crimes, but also is helping others who commit lesser crimes get their mental state back to where it should have been. This defense allows people to get treatment for their mental health instead of sitting in prison.
I do not know everything about this, but someone I know has greatly benefited from pleading insanity and getting send to a hospital to get help. He realized what he did, and how much it hurt his family, and it greatly ashamed by what he did. Everyday he is trying to get better, and I think that this can help many people.
- Right to Die
My stance on this topic is, yes, very ill patients should be allowed to choose their own destiny. If their quality of health is so low that they cannot get back to how they were, some would choose to stop being treated medically. Many people have POAs (power of attorney), so when they can't make decisions on their own, they have someone to do it for them. Just like there is a right to life, there should be a right to die.
